Do you accept Medicaid?

Yes! Medicaid/FAMIS is actually the only insurance we do accept. Dental services for children enrolled in Medicaid and FAMIS are provided through the “Smiles for Children” program administered by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Read more about Medicaid services here.

I don't have Medicaid (or any other insurance) can I be treated?

Yes! We offer a Pay As You Go Plan for any patients age 1-20 who are uninsured.

Do you see adult patients with Medicaid?

We do not see adult patients at this time, and we only have a pediatric dentist on staff.

Does the Community Dental Center offer cleanings?

We certainly do! As a full-service pediatric dental center we offer a complete array of dental services including cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns, and more. Review our list of services here.

Why do I need to get x-rays?

X-rays are both a diagnostic and preventive measure to ensure quality dental care. They help a dentist diagnose potential oral care issues in a patient’s mouth, even before they become a serious concern. We take x-rays only one time a year, unless they are needed for an emergency.

I need a procedure that requires sedation. Does your office use sedation?

No, we only provide local anesthesia for numbing. If your procedure requires sedation, we will refer you to another local dentist office that accepts Medicaid and provides sedation.

When is the Community Dental Center open?

We are open Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our first appointment is at 8:00 a.m. and our final appointment is at 4:00 p.m.

If I don't have transportation, what can I do?

If you have Medicaid insurance you can receive transportation for free. Call 1-866-386-8331 two weeks before your appointment to schedule a ride. If you do not have Medicaid coverage, our office is conveniently located close to multiple bus stops with CAT transportation. The Community Dental Center is located at 259 Hydraulic Ridge Rd. Suite 101 Charlottesville, VA 22901.

How old does my child need to be to start seeing the dentist?

We recommend having your child be seen by the dentist starting at 1 years old or once their first tooth has emerged. It is never too early to establish a healthy dental home.
