Our History

Our founders created Charlottesville Area Dental Access dba Community Dental Center to provide dental access to ALL persons.

Founders Judy Smith, retired Director of the local CHiP Program, Dr. William Viglione, a philanthropist and private dentist, and Dr. Peyton Weary, retired chairman of the UVa Department of Dermatology understood the critical need and benefit of quality dental care for all, especially children. Dr. Bill Hunt and Robert Tobey, CPA, joined the team in a three year effort to find the resources to open a care center. The Community Dental Center became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in February 2005. The doors opened in August 2005 with one dentist and two staff members.

We have expanded to nine staff members over the years, and hope to continue to grow!
