Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to help you plan your child’s dental care

Eligibility and insurance

Do you accept Medicaid?

Yes. We accept Medicaid and FAMIS. The Commonwealth of Virginia administers the Cardinal Care Smiles program (formerly known as Smiles for Children), which provides dental services to children enrolled in these plans. Read more about Medicaid/FAMIS services here.

We primarily treat children and young adults from ages 1 to 20.

Yes. We offer a Pay-As-You-Go Plan for uninsured patients ages 1 through 20. This plan offers reduced, transparent pricing to make quality care accessible.

Services and treatment

What dental services do you offer?

We provide a complete range of pediatric dental services, including cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings, crowns, extractions, and more. View our services here.

We use local anesthesia (numbing) for procedures to ensure your child is comfortable, but we do not offer sedation (such as nitrous oxide) in our office. If your child requires sedation for their treatment, we will refer you to a local partner who accepts Medicaid and provides those services.

X-rays help us diagnose potential issues, such as cavities between teeth, before they become serious problems. We typically take X-rays once a year unless there is an emergency or a specific concern.

Your visit

What are your office hours?

We are open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our first appointment is at 8:00 a.m., and our final appointment is at 4:00 p.m.

We recommend scheduling your child’s first visit by their first birthday or as soon as their first tooth appears. Establishing a “dental home” early helps prevent cavities and gets your child comfortable with the dentist.

If you have Medicaid or FAMIS, you can receive free transportation to your appointment. Call 1-888-386-8331 at least two weeks before your visit to schedule a ride.

Additionally, our office is located on Hydraulic Ridge Road, which is accessible via several Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus stops.

If you need to reschedule, please contact us at least 24 hours before your appointment. This allows us to offer the time to another child who needs care.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at 434-293-9300.
